5 Reasons Not to Miss the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2010

From the 16th to the 27th June 2010, the famous Edinburgh International Film Festival will return to Auld Reekie for another fortnight of red carpets, glamour and the very best of world cinema. Since its move from an August placing (which saw the EIFF’s award-winning programme perhaps slightly overshadowed by the rest of the city’s festivals) the festival has gone from strength to strength, earning it a much-deserved place next to Cannes, Sundance and Berlin as one of the world’s finest film showcases.

Why must it be added to your summer itinerary? Here’s just a handful of reasons:

1. From Betty Blue and Pulp Fiction, to The Piano, Trainspotting, Cinema Paradiso, Supersize Me and much more, the Edinburgh International Film Festival has premiered and launched more top movies than any other UK film fest.

2. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy Edinburgh’s summer in-between screenings, without the hectic buzz of the main festival season in August.

3. Where else can you meet the stars, ask the directors any question face-to-face and schmooze with top producers in the bar afterwards?

4. Scotland’s oldest cinema, The Cameo, is always one of the EIFF’s main hubs, Dating back to 1914, this unassuming art house cinema makes every guest feel right at home, whether they’re an Edinburgh Native or Sir Sean Connery himself.

5. With a programme packed fuller than ever before of not just films but also a series of events, workshops and Q&As all centred around film, if you’ve never experienced the EIFF before, 2010 looks set to be the perfect introduction.

As always, make your stay something a little more special by booking one of Edinburgh’s best apartments.
